Gabin, the youngest son of the Jourdel family, lives in the countryside in northern France. His father has a butcher shop, and his mother runs a dairy farm, which she keeps afloat with great effort only, and Gabin’s active help. As a child, a teenager and a young adult, Gabin struggles with his family’s expectations of him and his own: Should he take over the butcher's? Or the farm? Or do something entirely different? Featuring ellipses, dramatic twists and musical accents, the film follows Gabin from age eight to 18 as he seeks his path, while also taking an interest in the small escapes of his father and mother. A coming-of-age documentary about family, legacy and self-determination. (bik)
